School Suspended Through May 4, 2020

March 14, 2020

Dear Parents & Guardians,

After careful consideration and contact with other county agencies I have made the difficult decision to suspend site-based learning at AVS through May 4th. This suspension includes all field trips and student access to Aftercare.

This decision was made in collaboration with the Sonoma County Department of Health Services (DHS) and the Sonoma County Office of Education. We are joining the many other districts across our county in implementing these measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) through social distancing. It is important to note that there are currently no known cases of COVID-19 among AVS students or staff.  This decision allows our community to “flatten the curve” and reduce community spread of the virus.

Due to the increased attention to COVID-19, our staff has spent the last week developing and preparing for a student “distance learning” model.  To this end, we will utilize the morning of Monday, March 23rd to distribute classroom learning materials to our families.  Teachers will be present to distribute the curriculum materials and help answer questions you may have. Our curriculum material pickup window will take place between 8:00am-12noon on March 23rd.  If you are unable to pick up your child’s materials during that time frame, please contact our office at 707-433-1375 or email Ms. Jackie  jsloan@alexandervalleyusd.org  to make alternate arrangements for securing your child’s materials.  If you do call, be sure to leave a message on ext. 100 as those messages will be forwarded to Ms. Jackie remotely as needed. The student materials you are securing for your child include a tech device/charger, student workbooks, and/or learning packets.  Individual classroom teachers will communicate further instructions electronically with parents and in some cases, with students as needed throughout the suspension of classes. The expectation includes student work to be completed and submitted per direction from your child’s teacher.  In addition, all devices should be treated with care and returned in the same condition as to which they were provided.

Our entire team appreciates your understanding and will update you on any information that comes our way impacting the students of AVS.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email at mreno@alexandervalleyusd.org .

Please be safe and mindful of your family’s health.

Mr. Reno
